On October 21, KDI and the Brookings Institution hosted an event in Washington, DC, to celebrate the release of their third joint research report, "New Global Dynamics: Managing Economic Change in a Transforming World." KDI President Dongchul Cho and Brookings President Cecilia Elena Rouse delivered opening remarks, setting the stage for a panel discussion featuring experts such as Professor Richard Baldwin from IMD Business School and Anabel González, Vice President of the IDB.
The report, co-edited by KDI’s Dr. Daehee Jeong and Brookings’ Dr. Zia Qureshi, provides an in-depth examination of shifting global economic trends, industrial policy, trade, and finance. It highlights how geopolitical crises, technological advancements, and climate change are reshaping the global economic dynamics. The report underscores the need for international cooperation to address these challenges effectively and to adapt to the evolving dynamics of the global economy.
One key argument in the report is that globalization is not in retreat but is undergoing a structural transformation, with economic interconnections now centered around key regions and powerhouses. It calls for new policy frameworks to address the impacts of the digital revolution and climate change, which are transforming production, trade, and investment.
